What parking at Fenway actually costs
Fenway parking averages $33.78 a game, and the garages closest to the ballpark run $55 to $60. The official partner garages are cheaper - $10 at 100 Clarendon on nights and weekends, $20 at the Prudential Center with a same-day ticket - but they are a walk out, and the closest lots sell out by mid-afternoon for night games.
Every one of our apartments includes free off-street parking, so the car you drove in, or picked up at Logan, costs you nothing overnight.
What we tell guests who ask how to get to the game
This is the question we get most in season, and the answer is not the same for every game.
Night games and day games are different trips. A 7pm start means arriving into the worst of the traffic and leaving with forty thousand other people; the parking detail below matters. A day game is calmer at both ends, and it hands you the whole evening afterwards — which is when having your own kitchen and living room stops being a detail and starts being the reason you booked an apartment.
What we actually do is answer the question for your specific game when you ask. Which garages to prepay, when to leave, whether to bother driving at all. Guests tell us that is the useful part: Naomi wrote that we "responded immediately to all inquiries, like how to get to Fenway via public transportation." Guy wrote that we "gave me several options for transportation to and from Fenway." Liz, who normally stays in hotels, put it plainly — "Fenway and TD Garden are accessible and close."
You are booking direct with the person who hosts the place, so ask. That is the whole advantage.
Why a group books an apartment instead of Fenway-area hotel rooms
A Red Sox trip is rarely one person. It is four friends, or two families, or grandparents plus kids. Book that into a hotel and you are taking two or three rooms, paying to park each car, and eating every meal out.
Our apartments are whole homes. Separate bedrooms so nobody sleeps on a rollaway, a full kitchen so breakfast before a day game is not another $80, laundry so you can pack light for a long weekend, and off-street parking included at no charge. For a group of six or seven, that routinely lands well under the cost of the equivalent hotel rooms before you have paid for a single meal or a single night of parking.
Driving to the ballpark on game day
From our Dorchester apartments it is roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive to the Fenway area outside of rush hour, and from Hyde Park about 25 to 30. Game traffic adds to that, so most guests leave about an hour before first pitch for a night game.
The part worth planning is where the car goes at the other end. The garages closest to the ballpark sell out by mid-afternoon for night games, so if you want one of those, prepay. If you would rather not pay $55 to park for three hours, the partner garages at 100 Clarendon and the Prudential Center are far cheaper and a short walk out, and plenty of our guests simply leave the car at the apartment and ride in.
Either way the car sits free overnight where you are staying, which over a three or four night trip is most of a game ticket back in your pocket.
Around Fenway
Lansdowne Street runs along the back of the Green Monster and is the centre of the pre-game crowd. Jersey Street closes to traffic before games and turns into the main concourse outside the park. The Fenway neighbourhood itself has grown well beyond the ballpark - the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are both minutes away, and the Back Bay Fens run right behind the park if you want somewhere quiet before the gates open.
If you are making a weekend of it, the Freedom Trail, the New England Aquarium and the North End are all a straightforward drive or ride from where you will be staying.
Eighty-one home games, and the ones that are hard to book
The Red Sox play 81 home games a season, which is 81 chances to need a bed in Boston — and they are not equally difficult. An April Tuesday against a quiet opponent is easy. A summer weekend series, a Yankees series, or anything in the last fortnight of a close season is a different city entirely, and that is when rooms near the ballpark stop being available at any sensible price.
Those are the dates worth booking early with us, because we are fifteen apartments, not a hotel holding rooms back for late bookers. When the three-bedrooms are gone for a Saturday in July, they are gone.
If you are building a trip around a series rather than a single game, the maths moves further in favour of an apartment: three or four nights of free parking, breakfast at your own table before a day game, and laundry so you are not packing for every night.
